CSKA approach Everton over Gbamin loan

CSKA Moscow have approached Everton with the idea of signing Jean-Philippe Gbamin on loan for the rest of the season, according to multiple sources.

The defensive midfielder, also capable of playing as a right-back or a centre-back, arrived to Goodison Park from Mainz 05 in 2019, as a replacement for Idrissa Gana Gueye who had joined Paris Saint-Germain, but in the two and a half years since, he s only worn the club shirt on eight occasions in all competitions. Injuries have severely cut his ability to contribute to the team, and he simply had no chance of establishing himself as an important part of the plans, whether under Carlo Ancelotti, Rafa Benitez or Frank Lampard.

Currently fit, Gbamin will be keen to try and get his career back on track, and with the likes of A…

Klopp dismisses ´unlucky´ tag

Jurgen Klopp has dismissed talk of him being plagued by back luck as Liverpool prepare to face Tottenham in his third Champions League final.

Since his domestic double at Borussia Dortmund in 2012, Klopp has been the runner-up in two Champions Leagues, the Europa League, the League Cup and two DFB-Pokals.

The Liverpool manager s last six finals have ended in defeat, but the German is not concerned about that record ahead of the showdown with Tottenham in Madrid on Saturday.

If I would be the reason for losing six finals in a row, then everybody needs to worry really, he said at a press conference on the eve of the all-Premier League showdown.

So if that s not the case then we always have to have a chance and that s how we see it actually,

On the final matchday of the group stage, Kane and Lukaku did not have the opportunity to add to their hauls of five and four strikes respectively in Russia. England coach Gareth Southgate and his Belgium counterpart Roberto Martinez afforded both centre-forwards a rest when the qualified teams met in Kaliningrad.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, sits near the top of the charts courtesy of his hat-trick against Spain and early winner versus Morocco, but missed a penalty against Iran to stay behind Kane.

Here, we run down the candidacy of the players with two goals or more to their name, who are still in…

Emery a fantastic coach – Ljungberg defends fallen Arsenal boss

Freddie Ljungberg refused to criticise his inheritance from Unai Emery at Arsenal – hailing the departed head coach as a great leader .

Ljungberg took charge of his first game as interim Gunners boss at the weekend, where they twice came from behind in an eventful 2-2 draw at Norwich City.

It meant Arsenal remained without a Premier League win away from home since the first weekend of the season, while their previous top-flight triumph of any description came on October 6 against Bournemouth.

Brighton and Hove Albion will be the next team that look to prolong that slump when they visit Emirates Stadium on Thursday, but Ljungberg defended Emery, who led Arsenal to the final of the Europa League last season before promoting the former Sweden international to hi…

Inter 1-1 Slavia Prague: Barella rescues point for Conte

An injury-time equaliser from Nicolo Barella denied Slavia Prague a famous Champions League win over Inter at San Siro on Tuesday.

The champions of the Czech Republic were not expected to escape from a daunting Group F that also contains Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona but looked on course for a deserved victory in Milan through Peter Olayinka.

Slavia could have added to their tally and were punished in second-half stoppage time, as Barella s shot bounced through a crowded box and into the left-hand corner to ensure the game finished 1-1.

Inter started slowly until Stefan de Vrij headed over when unmarked six yards out, before Lautaro Martinez fired narrowly wide.

Danilo D Ambrosio s header was denied by Ondrej Kolar, who was then lucky not to give away a…

Ibrahimovic has impressed for United, scoring 16 goals in 25 appearances across all competitions.
