Wigan sack Mackay

Malky Mackay has been sacked by Wigan Athletic with the club languishing eight points from safety in the Championship.

The Scot was a controversial appointment back in November, following revelations of offensive text messages sent between himself and then Cardiff City head of recruitment Iain Moody during Mackay s time in south Wales.

Since arriving at the DW Stadium, Mackay has overseen five wins in 24 league outings, none of which have come in front of Wigan s home fans.

That run leaves the club 23rd in the table, eight points adrift of 21st with just five games remaining.

This is a very difficult decision to make but I feel that for the long term future of the club, there needs to be a change now. I wish Malky all the best for the future, said Wigan …

Vardy fears ´permanent stain against my name´ following casino incident

Leicester City and England striker Jamie Vardy is adamant he is not racist, but fears that will not prevent his reputation from being irreversibly tarnished following an inappropriate comment made in a casino last year.

Vardy hit the headlines for the wrong reasons when he made an offensive remark to an Asian man during a night out, behaviour that was caught on video and resulted in him being fined.

In an extract of his autobiography Jamie Vardy: From Nowhere, My Story serialised in The Sun, Vardy said: Most convictions get wiped after a period of time. But there s no way of erasing what happened in July 2015.

But despite a return of five goals in nine largely impressive appearances, he remains humble amid his recent success.

I came to Bayern from the second division last year and not too many people knew who I was, but that s all different now,  the Germany international told the DFB website.

I played a few games last season and came back from the Euros as an international player. It s certainly meant that the demands and expectations of me have c…
