Week 3 NFL Teaser Picks: Dawg Pound Sounds Off

Moving spreads through multiple key numbers is the name of the game with teasers, and I’m targeting a handful of teams on this weekend’s schedule.

The Cleveland Browns and Tampa Bay Buccaneers both have favorable home matchups and check out as my go-to teaser NFL picks for the NFL Week 3 odds slate.

Liverpool are a force again but Jürgen Klopp’s title is tough to place in pantheon

Liverpool could still end up with a record-shattering 107 points this season, though whether they will continue to carry everything before them after winning the title so early remains to be seen. Their game against Manchester City on Thursday should offer a fairly large clue about how the champions intend to approach their remaining fixtures, though by virtue of wrapping up the title with seven matches to play, Liverpool have already managed one of the most impressive Premier League campaigns.

Whether it will be deemed the best probably depends on the final points tally. If it falls below the 100 mark set by City two years ago it will look less arresting in the record books, which tend not to reflect the fact the title was won so comprehens…

Édouard Mendy deserves recognition in final knockings of Abramovich era

It must be very strange to be Édouard Mendy, a goalkeeper who seems doomed never quite to be centre stage. And when the spotlight does fall on him, it often feels it’s from a strange angle, that he’s not really appreciated for what he’s best at. Goalkeepers perhaps struggle than other positions to be properly understood, but few seem as misunderstood as the Senegal international.

In a very slightly different world, one in which Gianluigi Donnarumma had not made a vastly expensive move and saved crucial penalties in shootouts in the semi-final and final of Euro 2020, Mendy would have won a raft of goalkeeping awards last year. In a very slightly different world, he would have been seen as the hero of Chelsea’s FA Cup semi-final victo…

US women’s national team appoint Emma Hayes as world’s highest-paid female coach

Emma Hayes has been appointed as the new coach of the USA women’s national team. The Chelsea manager, who will leave her current role at the end of the season, has agreed a deal which makes her the world’s highest‑paid female coach.

“This is a huge honour to be given the opportunity to coach the most incredible team in world football history,” Hayes said.

“The feelings and connection I have for this team and for this country run deep. I’ve dreamed about coaching the USA for a long time so to get this opportunity is a dream come true. I know there is work to do to achieve our goals of winning consistently at the highest levels. To get there it will require dedication, devotion and collaboration from the…

Charles Barkley to retire from television after 2024-25

Hall of Fame member Charles Barkley said he will work one more season on television before calling it a career. Barkley, who works as an analyst on TNT's "Inside the NBA" studio show, said Friday night that the 2024-25 season will be his last in his second career. The NBA has been negotiating its next broadcast rights deals, with Disney (ESPN), NBC, Amazon and Warner Bros. Discovery (TNT) in competition for reportedly three packages. New deals will begin in the 2025-26 season, and Barkley — a multiple Sports Emmy-award winner — said he isn't interested in moving to other networks. "I ain't going nowhere other than TNT," Barkley, 61, said on NBA TV. "But I have made the decision that, no matter what happens, next year is going to be my last ye…

Rafael Nadal reaches first final since 2022

Rafael Nadal reached his first tournament final in more than two years on Saturday, coming from a set and a break down to defeat Duje Ajdukovic 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 at the Nordea Open in Bastad, Sweden. Nadal's last ATP Tour final — and win — came in June 2022 at the French Open. After dropping the first set to the Croatian qualifier, Nadal quickly went down in the second set, broken in the first game. But Nadal found another gear, breaking Ajdukovic's serve five times throughout the rest of the two-hour, 13-minute semifinal. "Always it is a great feeling to be back in a final," Nadal, of Spain, said after the clay-court match. "I have won four matches in a row, something I was not able to make happen since two years ago. A lot of things happened, but still in this …

Respect Is Poison: A Message To The Class Of 2019

I have a story to tell you about being Mad Online. This isn’t really a fitting, celebratory story for you, the graduating class of 2019. You’re currently clad in your caps and your gowns, surrounded by loved ones, forced to endure one final round of grueling lectures from a cadre of respected graduation day speakers, perhaps one of them a real, honest-to-Christ celebrity. But after this proud day—after you walk up there to get your degree, and then hug your headmaster like he’s Roger Goodell on draft day, and then hug your classmates, and then go hog wild at a lunch buffet either on campus or somewhere near it, and then finally cut off your hangover by getting ass-loaded again—you will go back to being aggressively online. In fact, you’re online right now, reading this! You sn…

Why Your Team Sucks 2016: New England Patriots

Some people are fans of the New England Patriots. But many, many more people are NOT fans of the New England Patriots. This 2016 Deadspin NFL team preview is for those in the latter group. Read all the previews so far here. And buy Drew’s new book here. Your team: Earth’s tumor. Fuck you. Eat shit. Die. Hop on the T and ride it straight into the toilet. Your 2015 record: 12-4, ending in an AFC title game that Gary Kubiak was just DYING to give away. He was protecting that 8-point lead with all the authority of a treehouse lookout. And yet, the New England Patriots—that band of cheating asshole dipshits and the river of human sewage that they call a fanbase—still couldn’t overtake the Broncos despite Kubiak’s generosity, and despite Peyton Manning residing in hospice care…

Why Your Team Sucks 2013: St. Louis Rams

Some people are fans of the St. Louis Rams. But many, many more people are NOT fans of the St. Louis Rams. This 2013 Deadspin NFL team preview is for those in the latter group. Read all the 2013 NFL previews so far right here. Your team: St. Louis Rams Your 2012 record: 7-8-1. Congrats on your finest season since 2006, Rams fans. The Rams haven't had a winning season in a decade. I remember when Tim McDonald played for the 49ers a long time ago. After they handed the Rams a particularly stern asswhipping, McDonald said in the locker room afterward: "Same Niners. Same Rams." It was an absolutely withering putdown. And even though the Niners were bafflingly incapable of beating St. Louis last season, I always think about that McDonald quote whenever the Rams sink bac…

Be Careful When Shaking Jason Kidd's Hand

For years, every time he went to the free throw line, Jason Kidd has blown a kiss into the air as a symbol of his love for his wife. Now that the marriage is over, though, Kidd is apparently sending the kisses somewhere that he feels needs the love a little more … his own asshole. Romantic guy, that Jason Kidd. Jason Kidd's New Free Throw Routine [True Hoop] …
