Pochettino not interested in Argentina job

Coaching Argentina is not in the short-term plans of Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, who enjoys his day-to-day management in the Premier League.

Pochettino s work in London has not gone unnoticed, with the 44-year-old linked to the top job in his homeland of Argentina after guiding Tottenham to third place last term.

Tottenham are once again challenging for silverware under the guidance of Pochettino, who is contracted to the club until 2021 having attracted reported interest from Manchester United.

Asked if he would be interested in taking charge of Argentina, Pochettino told La Nacion: No, not really because I m good here at Tottenham.

At my age I like to be involved in the day to day. I just took it as another rumour of football, among the many…

Guedes arrives in Paris ahead of PSG switch

Benfica winger Goncalo Guedes is close to completing his move to Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain after touching down in the French capital.

PSG head coach Unai Emery confirmed his interest in the 20-year-old Portugal international prior to the club s Coupe de la Ligue clash against Bordeaux, with Manchester United and Monaco reportedly also monitoring the situation.

And the French champions are now poised to sign Guedes after he arrived in Paris following PSG s 4-1 semi-final victory on Tuesday.

Guedes will now undergo a medical before signing his contract.

Pulisic declares himself ´100 per cent fit´ for FA Cup final: ´I never had a real issue´

Christian Pulisic believes he is in perfect condition ahead of the FA Cup final, adamant he never had a real issue despite Frank Lampard using him sparingly due to fitness concerns.

United States international Pulisic missed Chelsea s 3-1 win at Manchester United in the semi-final 11 days ago due to what Lampard described as a minor thigh injury.

The 21-year-old then only featured as a substitute in the 5-3 defeat to Liverpool on the penultimate day of the Premier League season, though in Chelsea s final match, Pulisic played 78 minutes against Wolves.

Lampard felt it was too much of a risk to start Pulisic against Liverpool, while his decision to bring him off against Wolves suggested there was still a hint of concern over his condition.

But Pulisic was…

FIFPro World 11: Ozil overlooked as Matic makes midfield list

Mesut Ozil has missed out on a place on the shortlist of midfielders for the 2018 FIFA FIFPro World 11.

The Arsenal star failed to earn enough votes to make the 15-man list, which was announced by FIFPro on Monday.

Bayern Munich s Thiago Alcantara and Paris Saint-Germain s Marco Verratti are the two other players to make last year s shortlist who do not appear this time.

Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva of Manchester City, along with Barcelona s Ivan Rakitic, return to the top 15 after missing out in 2017.

Manchester United duo Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic are included, as is Andres Iniesta, who left Barca for Vissel Kobe after the end of last season.

Henry announces international retirement, joins Red Bulls

French striker Thierry Henry on Thursday confirmed that he has retired from international football after making 123 appearances and scoring a record 51 goals for France.

Appearing at a press conference at the Red Bull Arena here following the officialisation of his move to Major League Soccer side the New York Red Bulls, the 32-year-old explained the reasons behind his decision.

I ve worn (the French shirt) 123 times and I ve always had goosebumps when I ve worn the blue jersey, he said.

But you have to know when to stop. There are young players coming through.

Henry, who arrives in America from Spanish champions Barcelona, dismissed suggestions that he was winding down his career.

When you join a club you always try to win the title, which i…

The forward, who was forced out of the Lionesses starting line-up for Friday’s match against Austria after pulling up in the warm-up, will now return to club side Chelsea.

Sarina Wiegman’s side face Italy on Tuesday in their second friendly in Spain, having beaten Austria 7-2 at Algeciras’ Estadio Nuevo Mirador.

Fran Kirby has withdrawn from the squad and will return to Chelsea for further assessment on a minor knee injury.

Brazil up to fourth in FIFA world rankings

FIFA World Cup hosts Brazil have moved up to fourth in the world rankings, their highest position in nearly two years.

Luiz Felipe Scolari s men have jumped above South American rivals Colombia and Uruguay into their best spot on the global ladder since July 2011.

Brazil are now the leading team from the CONMEBOL confederation in the rankings, with Argentina behind Colombia and Uruguay in seventh.

World Cup holders Spain continue to lead the way in first ahead of Germany and Portugal, a position they have held from September 2011.

Chile have switched places with United States, moving one spot up to 13th, while Honduras are tied for 30th with Serbia following a two-place jump.

The 2014 World Cup begins on June 12 in Sao Paulo, with the final set of rankings …

Henry: Xavi should finish his career at Barca

Thierry Henry has urged former Barcelona team-mate Xavi to stay with the club until he retires from football.

Xavi has spent his entire professional career at Camp Nou and made his 700th appearance for the Catalan club in Thursday s Copa del Rey win over Getafe.

However, the Spain midfielder, whose contract expires in June 2016, has been linked with a move to MLS franchise New York Red Bulls, who Henry joined from Barca in 2010.

However, Henry believes the 33-year-old would be best served by spending the remainder of his playing days at Barca.

Xavi can do whatever he wants, Henry said at a promotional event for Puma in Barcelona on Friday.

For me, given everything he has done for football and Barcelona, he should stay there and spend the rest of his life a…

I would lose my mind! – Deulofeu will not think about Barcelona return

Gerard Deulofeu says he would lose his mind if he began to think about the prospect of returning to Barcelona.

The winger joined AC Milan on loan from Everton until the end of the season in January and has made an impressive start to his Serie A career to earn a recall to Spain s squad for the matches against Israel and France.

Deulofeu, 23, has immediately settled with Vincenzo Montella s side, but it is Barca who maintain a €12million option to buy the player from Everton as part of his 2015 Camp Nou exit who will determine his long-term future.

And rumours of a Camp Nou return were fuelled this week when Robert Fernandez, the Catalans technical secretary, welcomed Deulofeu s form, stating that holding an option to re-sign him is a positive thing for Barca.

Prediction: Ukraine vs Slovenia

With five play-off defeats to their name, this is not the position Ukraine want to be in, but if there ever was a time to end the barren run, it is now. Slovenia will be looking for more of the same after eliminating Zbirna in the two-legged tie ahead of the Euro 2000, but they could face a very difficult task at L viv Arena.

Since 1998, Ukraine only qualified for one major tournament, while losing five play-offs and making it to the Euro 2012 as the host nation, but this crop of players definitely look capable of helping the national team get back to old glory days. Even if Yevhen Konoplyanka is the only footballer in the squad who plies his trade in a top league, with veteran midfielder Anatoliy Tymoshchuk the other player who is based abroad, this team have got both the qual…
