When it comes to making NFL betting picks, everyone has their own process. Some folks dig deep into the digits and rely on advanced models to make their bets for them. Others monitor the markets, catching key numbers and chasing steam.
Myself, I do a little bit of everything, including going beyond those handicapping tactics to see what the schedule is serving up. Situational handicapping – AKA spot bets – is a fantastic way to undercover value that others may miss.
Here are the spot bets – letdown, look-ahead, and schedule – to keep in mind when making your best NFL Week 5 bets.

One of the final major dominoes yet to fall leading up to the NFL Draft is Deebo Samuel, who’s broken off contract negotiations with the San Francisco 49ers and is now asking for a trade.
Samuel is coming off his best season as a pro, hauling in 77 catches for 1,406 yards and six touchdowns. He’s entering the final year of his rookie deal but while the 49ers appeared ready to make him one of the league’s highest-paid receivers, the star wideout expressed frustrations about his usage within the San Francisco offense.
“He’s a top receiver but he also takes a lot of hits and is used like a running back, put all over the field and it just does not sound like he’s comfortable as of right now with the way he is being used,” explained NFL insider Ian Rapoport.<…
Super Bowl 57 is less than a week away and with all the star power that comes with two No. 1 seeds clashing, this championship could easily be decided by some lesser-recognized players on both sides or some secondary skillsets from key players.
I will try and shine a betting light to some possible unheralded X-Factors for Sunday’s Big Game. I’m looking at some players or skills that might be slipping the attention of many, which in turn could potentially return some value in their Super Bowl player prop markets.
I break it all down in my best Super Bowl picks below.

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are 5-1 and winners of five straight, but the wins along the way have been dicey, and the offense has not exactly played to the established expectations from years past.
After only beating the Broncos, Vikings, and Jets by a combined 21 points in the last three weeks, there have been some growing vocalized concerns about the legitimacy of the Chiefs’ record and their standing as one of the league’s best teams.
Can Patrick Mahomes string together a more Mahomes-esque performance in Week 7 against the Los Angeles Chargers in a key AFC West matchup? I’ve taken a look at some Patrick Mahomes odds and have come up with my favorite NFL picks centered around the superstar.

After 18 weeks of grueling action, the NFL Playoffs are finally here.
If you thought the regular season spreads and totals were tough, wait until you get a load of the NFL Wild Card Round odds.
With just a handful of games on the board, oddsmakers fine-tuning their numbers, and any rough spots are quickly sanded down by early action. That makes getting the best of the number a battle.
I run down the opening NFL odds for the Wild Card round and highlight the best spreads and totals to bet now with your NFL picks, as well as some lines you may want to wait to bet later.

Moving spreads through multiple key numbers is the name of the game with teasers, and I’m targeting a handful of teams on this weekend’s schedule.

Liverpool could still end up with a record-shattering 107 points this season, though whether they will continue to carry everything before them after winning the title so early remains to be seen. Their game against Manchester City on Thursday should offer a fairly large clue about how the champions intend to approach their remaining fixtures, though by virtue of wrapping up the title with seven matches to play, Liverpool have already managed one of the most impressive Premier League campaigns.
Whether it will be deemed the best probably depends on the final points tally. If it falls below the 100 mark set by City two years ago it will look less arresting in the record books, which tend not to reflect the fact the title was won so comprehens…
It must be very strange to be Édouard Mendy, a goalkeeper who seems doomed never quite to be centre stage. And when the spotlight does fall on him, it often feels it’s from a strange angle, that he’s not really appreciated for what he’s best at. Goalkeepers perhaps struggle than other positions to be properly understood, but few seem as misunderstood as the Senegal international.
In a very slightly different world, one in which Gianluigi Donnarumma had not made a vastly expensive move and saved crucial penalties in shootouts in the semi-final and final of Euro 2020, Mendy would have won a raft of goalkeeping awards last year. In a very slightly different world, he would have been seen as the hero of Chelsea’s FA Cup semi-final victo…
Emma Hayes has been appointed as the new coach of the USA women’s national team. The Chelsea manager, who will leave her current role at the end of the season, has agreed a deal which makes her the world’s highest‑paid female coach.
“This is a huge honour to be given the opportunity to coach the most incredible team in world football history,” Hayes said.
“The feelings and connection I have for this team and for this country run deep. I’ve dreamed about coaching the USA for a long time so to get this opportunity is a dream come true. I know there is work to do to achieve our goals of winning consistently at the highest levels. To get there it will require dedication, devotion and collaboration from the…
Hall of Fame member Charles Barkley said he will work one more season on television before calling it a career. Barkley, who works as an analyst on TNT's "Inside the NBA" studio show, said Friday night that the 2024-25 season will be his last in his second career. The NBA has been negotiating its next broadcast rights deals, with Disney (ESPN), NBC, Amazon and Warner Bros. Discovery (TNT) in competition for reportedly three packages. New deals will begin in the 2025-26 season, and Barkley — a multiple Sports Emmy-award winner — said he isn't interested in moving to other networks. "I ain't going nowhere other than TNT," Barkley, 61, said on NBA TV. "But I have made the decision that, no matter what happens, next year is going to be my last ye…
